Mr. X.L. Ding is a senior professor of the Shenzhen University and the Academic Director of the Institute for China's Overseas Interests (ICOI) at the university. He received his Ph.D. (1992) and M.A. (1987) degrees from Harvard University, USA. Since then Ding has taught at Harvard College as a lecturer (1991-92); at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technologya as a lecturer (1993- 95), senior lecturer (1999- 2002) and full professor (2003- 18). Ding was hired as a research fellow (1996- 1999) at the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies at the Australian National University (RSPAS, ANU), Canberra and a research associate (1999- 2004) of the RSPAS, ANU. From 2006 to 2008 Ding served as the representative of The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (Washington, D.C.) Joint Program on Globalization in Beijing and also its senior associate. From 2011 onwards Ding has been a member of the Academic Committee of The BoYuan Foundation (Hong Kong - Beijing).   

Ding's research interests include comparative modernization/ development, the politics and sociology of the transition from command to market economies, globalization, higher education and regional competition, radical political and social movements. He has published with Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Peking University Press, Linking Publishing Company (Taipei), etc.

His recent monograph Depating The Chinese Model has been published first in Chinese (three editions)and then translated into Korean and Japanese languages. His research papers appeare in The British Journal of Political Science, The China Quarterly, The China Journal, Asian Survey, The Problems of Post-Communism,  Crime, Law & Social Change, etc.

The research performed by Prof. He’s lab uncovers specific pathways and key enzymatic targets of oxidative lipid metabolism, providing new insights into mechanisms of cell death of neurons and immune cells. Based on those discoveries, Prof.He’s lab effectively discloses the pharmacological activities and mechanisms of TCM formula and herbs.

She has published more than 100+ SCI papers in international high-level journals, such as Nat Chem Biol, Nat Commun, Redox Biol, etc. This series of novel research projects are supported by dozens of funding sources such as National Natural Science Foundation of China, Key Research Items from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, and Major New Drug Creation program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. She has been granted 20+ patents, including one of which was awarded the 17th China Patent Excellence Award by the China National Intellectual Property Administration as the first complete person. Her scientific research achievements have won many government science and technology awards, such as the China Youth Science and Technology Award, First Prize of Guangdong Province Science and Technology Progress Award, the Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, the Ding Ying Science and Technology Award of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong Youth May Fourth Medal and other awards. He is one of the founders of modern TCM oncology, who has expanded the connotation of clinical four diagnosis of tumor in TCM, proposed that the standard of Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment Administration for cancer patients began with “Shanghan Zabing Lun (Treatise on Cold Pathogenic and Miscellaneous Diseases)”, expand the connotation of “the four methods of diagnosis” and “Syndrome Differentiation Treatment” in clinical cancer therapeutics, and interpret the concepts of “people-oriented” and “survival with tumor”; He has developed the first Chinese patent medicine “HeChan Tablet” for treating lung cancer in China. He has compiled ten monographs, including “Summary of Tumor Treatment”, “Dietotherapy of Traditional Chinese Medical Oncology”, “Summary of clinical experience in tumor treatment”, and “Traditional Chinese Medical Oncology”. He won five provincial and ministerial level awards, including “Second Prize for Major Scientific Research Achievements Issued by the Ministry of Health”, “First Prize for Scientific and Technological Achievements Issued by the Ministry of Education”, and “Second Prize of Science and Technology Award issued by Guangdong Province”. He was granted amounts of honorary titles, like “a top role model worker of Nanyue (Guangdong) ”. In 2019, he won the “National Outstanding Contribution Award of Traditional Chinese Medicine”.

Professor Zhou is the initiator of TCM oncology academic school in Lingnan region (Southern China), who started and promoted the higher education of TCM oncology, and supervised the publication of the first nationally planned TCM oncology textbook of the Ministry of Education. He has developed academic exchanges and cancer consultation in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, the United States and Canada, and other countries. He is expert in the treatment of liver cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer and other advanced malignant tumors, as well as the rehabilitation of various types of cancers.

A Georgetown Law graduate, Shapiro began his career as an associate at the Squire Sanders law firm. After an extended tenure in law, he began working on Capitol Hill as an assistant to a prominent member of the U.S. Congress. Later in his life, Gary would use this combined law and legal experience to be named one of The Hill’s top lobbyists numerous times throughout his career (2015-2022).
